U.S. CENSUS SURVEY:  SEPARATING FACT from FICTION 

The Crime Prevention Unit of the Abington Township (Pa.) Police Dept. has recently issued a warning memo to the general public about Census Survey Fraud.  Typical of some of today’s behavior, especially when seniors are involved, makes this warning timely and credible. 

 

How do you tell the difference between a U.S. Census worker and a con artist?  If a U.S. Census worker knocks on your door, they will have a Government ID Badge, handheld device, a canvas Census Bureau bag, and a confidentially notice.  Ask to see their identification and their ID Badge before answering any questions. 

 

A CENSUS WORKER SHOULD NOT ASK TO ENTER A HOME TO CONDUCT THE SURVEY AND, YOU SHOULD NEVER INVITE ANYONE YOU DO NOT KNOW INTO YOUR HOME. 

 

Furthermore, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ANSWER ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT YOUR FINANCIAL SITUATION.

 

      DO NOT GIVE YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER , CREDIT CARD NUMBERS OR BANKING INFORMATION TO ANYONE, EVEN IF THEY CLAIM THEY NEED IT FOR THE U.S. CENSUS BUREAU! 

Also, be in the lookout for e-mail requests regarding census information as these are not legitimate.
